Lui, Lauren

Lauren Lui is a Ph.D. candidate in the Biomolecular Engineering and Bioinformatics program and will be a postdoctoral fellow at UC Berkeley.  Her research focuses on small RNA genes and uses a variety of computational and biochemical techniques for gene prediction and analysis of function.  She plans to pursue an academic career and aims to become a professor at a major research university.  Lauren is a two-time PDP participant, acting as an instructor for the WEST program (Workshops for Engineering and Science Transfers) in 2011 and as the design team leader for a computational biology workshop for biomolecular engineering undergrads in 2012.  In 2013, she attended the PDP as a Special Projects member to help develop a facilitation guide for new PDP partner sites. Lauren has also been part of the ISEE collaboration with the UCSC Education Department, leading ISEE activities for pre-service teachers in the credential program. Lauren applies her PDP experiences when developing lesson plans, mentoring, writing her teaching philosophy, and designing experiments.
